Exide Technologies Warehouse Lead in Richmond, British Columbia

Overview

The Warehouse Lead Hand is pivotal in running the operations at our warehouse branches and support to the Branch Operations Manager. The incumbent will provide leadership with all other hourly personnel as well as participate, train, and evaluate other on battery preparation, shipping, receiving, health and safety, quality, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory management: to reconcile inventory re the Negative report, to write down to scrap or seconds, to authorize substitutions both on paper and in the JDE system, to perform deplaquing reports as well as plaquing reports, to fully assist, and if needed to run monthly cycle counts as well as year-end tag & tally inventory

  • Audits: to perform Daily Outgoing Audit, to complete monthly branch Safety audit, emergency equipment inspections, voltmeter calibrations, and daily inspections of forklifts and walkies.

  • To supervise, coach, lead and motivate others. To work with and train new employees and temps in Exide best practices

  • To pull orders, route and generate pick slips in JDE during Branch Manager absence

  • To ship confirm, send ASNs in JDE, and print CDD’s. To order packing materials as required (pallet wrap skids etc)

  • To work with Ryder and other vendors in case repairs as required. To call common carriers for pick ups as required

  • To work with Branch Manager providing his/her own suggestions on priorities for work assignments etc

  • To work with staff members, delegating work, following through to ensure completion

  • To provide suggestions and advise on disciplinary action, probationary status, performance reviews and evaluations of hourly staff

  • To work with branch manager to schedule hourly staff as needed including overtime and temp workers

  • To communicate with corporate office departments as needed including but not limited to communicating branch needs re labels/batteries

  • To instill 100% safety procedures, practices, and policies including but not limited to conducting safety meetings, understanding and communicating spill procedures, emergency procedures, and workplace accident claims

  • To work cooperatively with Drivers; knowledge of area and route to be covered, advise on best method of running the routes, and aware of seasonal weather factors

  • To work cooperatively with the Branch Coordinator in receiving and assist with DER process

  • To work with Branch Manager/or Branch Coordinator to acquire compute skills to complete all tasks and new tasks as required

  • Prepare batteries and chargers for shipment - includes testing, modifying, and option change outs per specifications. Material handling and staging truckload items and load trucks as necessary

  • To assist with the operations as a Lead Hand in other branches as required

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Previous warehouse experience preferred – JDE, shipping, receiving, loading, understand label compliance and quality requirements, health and safety, FIFO experience

  • Basic computer experience with Microsoft Windows environment a plus

  • Sit Down and/or Stand Up Forklift Certification

  • WHMIS and TDG certification in good standing

  • Some supervisory or management experience of employees in a warehouse/manufacturing setting

  • Experience training, monitoring, and providing feedback on the performance of others

  • Good communication, delegation, and mentoring skills

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Individual is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Ability to regularly lift a minimum 30lbs on a daily basis and 51 to 70lbs with assistance of equipment on a daily to weekly basis.

  • Regular use of safety glasses and any other safety equipment necessary

  • Vision requirements: close vision.
